About Totem Valley Bison Co.

Founded in 2023 with 41 head of bison, Totem Valley Bison Co. is dedicated to raising awareness and supporting the conservation of bison. Our mission is to promote bison not just as a source of lean, nutritious meat, but as a vital part of local and regional ecosystems. We're committed to returning to the grassroots of bison as a resource for food, wool, and more. Inspired by their versatility and ease of raising, we encourage ranchers to expand into bison farming and contribute to the preservation of this remarkable species.

The Founding Lady

Cassidy, the Executive Director of Totem Valley Bison Co., combines her passion for helping others in need during her day job as an Emergency Department RN with a deeply imbedded love for ranching. A mother of two, Cassidy brings her background in horse training and showmanship to the ranch, where she channels her skills and dedication into raising and conserving bison. Her commitment to both her community and the land reflects her belief in the power of resilience, whether it's supporting people in health crisis or nurturing a sustainable future through bison ranching.

Totem Valley Bison Company LLC is partner-owned and operated. See our Join The Herd page for more info into our working partnerships!

The bison herd at Totem Valley Bison started with 41 bison cows that had calves to their sides and were exposed to a bison bull prior to arriving at our ranch. This herd ranged in cows aged 4 to 10 years old and calves roughly 3 months old. The original cows were brought to the states from Saskatchewan, Canada whenever they were a year old and were raised for many years at Plummer Cattle Company. At that location, they were bred back to a Plains Bison Bull and reproduced heavily over the years before they were bought on dispersal to be owned by Totem Valley Bison Company. This is where they currently reside and thrive.

Totem Valley Bison Company is operated on shy of 50 acres in the heart of Mid Southwestern Missouri. The ranch is located less than 30 minutes from Springfield, Bolivar, Marshfield, and Carthage. Major Cities like Kansas City and St. Louis are less than a 3 hours' drive from the Totem Valley Bison Company Ranch. We are nestled snugly up against city limits in Pleasant Hope, Missouri, which puts the bison herd at Totem Valley as a center piece that bring majesty to the town. The ranch is managed, looked after, and operated by locals whose families are a part of the Totem Valley Bison Partner Initiative.

The Totem Valley Ranch is a beautiful natural location. It is home to a herd of wild BLM mustangs that lay claim to the front acreage as the bison reside offset of the road and along the line of the sunset. The skies are open and vast here at the bison ranch, boasting variations to star patterns and flickering galaxy lines visible only at night. Here are where some of the more gorgeous sunsets show their best colors beforehand. Giving this land back to the native bison and mustangs has only added to its natural beauty. We often host company to join us as we enjoy this classic western scenery.

Given that our company is up and coming, we have ample plans as we shoot full steam ahead! Totem Valley Bison Company now offers Live Sales and judged bloodlines available at Local Auction or private treaty. We currently offer frozen shipments nationwide of custom butchered pure bison meat (wholes, halves, quarters, and single units) that is considered antibiotic free, non-GMO, 100% pure bison, grass-fed USDA and is inspected/processed by Quapaw Food Services in Miami, Oklahoma. The meat is then returned to us, itemized and deeply frozen to fulfill orders that we accept through this website. From there, we then take the bison hides and capes to our taxidermist and leather co-op Full Rut Taxidermy in Miller, Missouri. One of our strongest values is the respect of utilizing the entire bison from head to toe. It is no surprise that we find use for even the bison wool by means of transforming it into a luxury Bison Yarn! All of which, you can exclusively find on our site.

Our conservation efforts are most obvious by a few different means. Firstly, Totem Valley Bison Company focuses on breeding back only the best qualities maintain the benefits that come with ranching pure bison. There are NEVER cattle integrations to our bison herds' bloodlines! Secondly, the Totem Valley Bison Partner Initiative allows for the average individual to own their very own bison within our herd. Considering a working partnership agreement, this initiative gives groups of families the ability to help support our bison population, learn bison husbandry and humane practices, gain ranchmanship skills, and utilize the land along with its facilities. Our conservation effort helps to increase the population of bison nationwide by mainstreaming bison products and increasing access to practicing bison ranching for the average farmer or interested persons.
